What is WoW Forever?

Blizzard's BlizzCon announcement states: World of Warcraft: Forever is our new, third World of Warcraft experience alongside Modern and Classic. The What's Next panel recap puts it more directly: This is not a mode, a season, or a new version of Classic. WoW Forever is presented as a permanent Azeroth experience that keeps the older journey recognizable while adding new places, systems, class options, and future updates. It launches globally on November 4, 2026, at 3:00 p.m. PST (official pre-purchase announcement).

The easiest way to understand the project is to separate the familiar foundation from the new layer. The world still asks players to travel, quest, form groups, learn professions, and build a character over time. The new layer adds the Skyborne playable race from Zephras Isle, three new zones, more than 1000 new quests, new dungeons and raids, a Legacy account system, Camping, optional transmog, and updated visual choices. The goal is not to turn the experience into a seasonal mode; it is to keep building one lasting version with the community (official Deep Dive Panel Recap).

01

Built around four design pillars

The official framing emphasizes familiarity and approachability, a world where the setting remains the focus, a journey that matters more than rushing to the endpoint, and protection of the social experience. Blizzard also keeps no flying mounts and no level scaling, so travel and level-appropriate encounters remain part of the journey (official What’s Next panel recap 24303862). Those pillars explain why the site treats travel, group play, and progression as part of the product rather than as friction to remove (official Deep Dive Panel Recap).

02

Three new zones, one long journey

The three new zones listed on the official product page are Zephras Isle, Riverglades, and Mount Hyjal. Shen'dralas is described separately in the What’s Next panel recap 24303862: it is where players uncover forgotten history. Zephras Isle offers an elemental skybound starting experience for levels 1–12, with architecture inspired by Skywall. Riverglades is a rugged frontier with more than 150 new quests across much of the mid-30s to mid-40s experience. Mount Hyjal explores the aftermath of Archimonde's defeat and includes Darkwhisper Gorge. Shen'dralas lies between Mulgore and Desolace and is tied to the Shen’dralar, Eldre’Thalas, Dire Maul, and the centaur tribes of the region (official What's Next panel recap 24303862). The planned launch cap is level 60, while the beta deliberately exposes only staged portions of the journey. The areas are therefore part of one 1–60 structure, not four disconnected mini-games.

03

New group content and class paths

The launch plan includes nine named dungeons and two raids: Barrow Deeps for 10 players and Hyjal Summit for 20 players. The nine dungeons are Hall of Thanes beneath Ironforge, Ruins of Lordaeron, a mysterious excavation site above Whelgar's Excavation, City of Dalaran, Blackmaw Hold, Drowned City, Krol'dok Stronghold, Alcaz Prison, and Shaper's Terrace (official What’s Next panel recap 24303862). The new Darkspear Islands battleground is 15 vs 15 off the coast of Kalimdor, combining control points with Arathi Basin-style capture and defense (official What’s Next panel recap 24303862). Blizzard also lists six new race-and-class combinations: Gnome Priest, Human Hunter, Dwarf Shaman, Orc Mage, Troll Warlock, and Undead Paladin (official Deep Dive Panel Recap). Skyborne who choose the Horde can play Shamans; those who choose the Alliance can play Mages. Both factions can play Warriors, Hunters, Rogues, and Druids, including unique Skyborne Druid forms (official What’s Next panel recap 24303862). These are some of the clearest reasons a returning player may want to look again even if the original leveling memories are familiar.

What is new in the systems?

Legacy is an account-level progression layer with Professions, Adventure, and Resourcefulness trees. It gives returning players a way to make progress that matters across characters without turning the system into a competitive advantage. The reward track focuses on cosmetic rewards, so an alt can benefit from the account’s wider history without becoming automatically stronger in group competition (official Deep Dive Panel Recap).

Camping adds an outdoor campfire and shared camp utility. Other players can contribute profession work, and camp objects provide a shared buff with limits (official Deep Dive Panel Recap 24303313). This is designed to make outdoor play more social without replacing towns, dungeons, or the normal profession loop. It is a system to use while travelling, not a reason to avoid the world.

Optional transmog and visual presets let players choose how much of the modern presentation they want. Classic Mode can disable transmog, while modern and classic visual options, HD or SD models, restored classic animations, and official controller support give players more control over how the same world feels (official Deep Dive Panel Recap 24303313). That makes WoW Forever easier to approach for players who want familiarity but do not want every presentation choice frozen in 2005.
